256px*256px is the new standard for seven way but seven can handle 512x512 too ;).
Thx if u do one i suggest you a red ball or a blub so markus 'll can include the better on the new upcoming release because alot of peopple use seven now and a lot of icons on seven are in HD.
I think it makes the difference with a professionnal looking program.
Edit: i know it's not you're decision and hope markus 'll read these threads... -
512x512 for icon?? OMG! Win7 developers are crazy

But I'll try to do it
-
no just deal with the 256 px; 512 are used mostly for the games categorie under start menu.
By the way osx lion have 512 too
-
Can't imagine what for is such big size... 1/4 of my screen

-
Well in a full hd monitor 512 is not so big (i use a 47" full led monitor for to play blubby ^^)
-
I don't know as i don't have such monitor. Maybe you are right and new hd-icons will be useful. Will do them next week

-
yep but just deal with 256 it's really enough (by the way linux can handle 512px too ^^)
Some good 512px icons:

Oh, I forgot to ask - which is the format of icons in Windows 7? ICO/GIF/PNG?
-
.ico like you're others icons

-
Sorry, =KiWi=, i absolutely forgot about hd-icon. I will try to paint it on the next week!

-
Finally, one icon (ball) is ready in 256x256 and 512x512. Sorry for a big delay

Maybe i will remake others too, but i don't promise
P.S. Is it ok that size of 512x512 is 1mb? I tried to save ico-file with compression, but it wasn't working in XP, so i saved without it. Am i right in such step?

Icon with compression didn't work in ubuntu too, so seems that 1 mb is only one possible solution

-
72*72 is the limit in xp u can change this in the regedit but it's not recommended;)
-
72x72 is the limit for compressed ico, right? Or uncompressed too?
